v0 vs Bolt.new vs Replit - The AI Coding Assistants that are Killing ChatGPT

ChatGPT is dropping the ball when it comes to coding assistants.
There is 1 simple reason why.

It doesn’t matter how great a ChatGPT model is like o1-Preview either.
ChatGPT is simply missing the mark in how it is going about coding.
ChatGPT is also not allowing non-coders to become coders easily.
This is because coding is always done in iterations — in a testing environment.

The amazing thing about these new AI coding tools is — they work like ChatGPT so anyone can use them.
But they are built with non-coders in mind.
You can tell Bolt.new, v0, and a host of new AI coding assistants what you want — and they will build it.
ChatGPT will build it — but it won’t deploy it.
You can’t test it easily for most people — without it requiring a lot of steps.
This is the number 1 biggest mistake ChatGPT is making in the AI coding tool race.
It may seem like this isn’t a huge deal — but let me show you why it is with an example.
v0 vs ChatGPT o1-preview vs ChatGPT-4o with Canvas
I wanted to use a simple example to test all of these three coding assistants.
Here is the same prompt I used in each of these tools.
create an image uploader with nice user interface I can use to upload images to for a new product I’m making for social sharing on my website.

v0 by Vercel
Here is the interface of v0. It is a simple Chat interface — very similar to ChatGPT
I used the same prompt as above and immediately the v0 coding assistant went to work — and showed a visual mockup on the right side.

You can also prompt and the visuals change.

The visual preview option is great for building a UI quickly. It still has the actual code but the visual version is provided first.
The biggest difference between v0 and ChatGPT is that you can actually deploy code on a working website URL in v0.

v0 even has version control for any changes you are making.
ChatGPT o1-Preview
Here is a screenshot of the answer from ChatGPT o1-Preview.
The actual answer is way too long to post here. It has multiple files and instructions to get it to work.
It didn’t visually show the code or a working example — and it didn’t test it.
The coding might be much better than v0 — but for a novice coder or if you want a quick mockup, this takes way too long to test.
ChatGPT-4o with Canvas
The next coding assistant I wanted to try is ChatGPT-4o with Canvas.
The UI of this is much more similar to how v0 works.
It has the chat on the left and the code on the right.
But it still didn’t have the actual UI — and most importantly, I couldn’t deploy it.
ChatGPT-4o with Canvas finished the code and asked:
Would you like help integrating this with a backend or enhancing the design further?
and I responded:
yes. can you deploy this for me so i can have a look on my browser?
As you can see again, it listed a number of steps.
It even listed Vercel (who owns v0) as an option of how to deploy it.
So as you can see, regardless, of code quality, these new AI coding assistants with the ability to deploy to the web — will continue to be a threat to ChatGPT.
